It was totally unrelatable on almost every level, one of the worst sins that a romcom can commit.

Laden with pleasant, stereotypic characters, there isn't a twist or turn that you don't see coming long before Sarah.

If you tossed Patrick a bone and deemed it adorable enough for the most easily-delighted dog lovers, it wouldn't be very fair to the countless pooch pictures that have actually cared about story or comedy or any of the human characters.

The film struggles to congeal, falling back on laboured gags set up with mechanical lack-of-ease.

It's a lazy film with simplistic problems and pat solutions.

Though the family-friendly comedy has all the good intentions of a motivational puppy poster, it unfortunately also has the same level of intelligence and plot.

It's likely to be written off completely by some audiences based on its marketing that has been, for want of a better word, cringeworthy.

For a "sweet nothing" of a movie, you kind of wish "nothing" wasn't the most accurate description.

Patrick is like having your face licked a little too eagerly by a clumsy puppy.; many will like the sensation and even those who don't will politely long for it to end.

The plot is familiar and reminiscent of Disney films of the 1960s (updated perhaps)

Mild British comedy should have had more dog, less human.

A one-joke British comedy.

The entire thing is so relentlessly bright and breezy that, much like the scrunchy-faced pooch himself, it eventually wins you over, even if it never quite delivers the promised laughs.

Plays up to kiddies with poop, pratfalls and potential paramours but lack the heart of the great dog movies like "Hachi" and "Lassie Come Home."

The titular pooch is the most appealing character in this broad and irritating British comedy.

There is no actual story, and no hint at psychological realism. Just a jaded sense that viewers will watch any old rubbish with a comedy dog, and a belated attempt at third-act drama.

Shaggy dog stories don't come much more threadbare than this.

It's a film jam-packed with very good actors and big names, and suffused with a puppyish willingness to please. But where is the bite?

A film has to have something going for it, like a plot, instead of just relying on an adorable animal.

If you're looking for a movie with some cute dog stuff in it and some sappy romance and light comedy, this will hit the spot; just don't expect much more here.
